Sun Awareness

Sun Awareness, which means it's time to talk about the importance of ensuring your clients are protecting their beautiful hair in the sun more than ever. When it comes to hair protection we have lots of tips, advice and recommended products…

Protecting Hair In The Sun

At Remi Cachet, our overall advice for our clients is to avoid wearing hair extensions whilst on holiday. Wearing hair extensions on holiday exposes them to a lot of factors that can lead to discoloration or early color fade. So it's important to explain our recommendation to those clients who are discussing wearing hair extensions on holiday.

For those clients who think hair extensions are a must for their holiday (even though we really recommend that they don’t wear them!), here are our top 5 tips…

1. Avoid Hard Water

It’s important to note that for those stunning, sunny holiday destinations where the water isn't drinkable because of the minerals it contains, it can not only be bad for your client's skin, but can also cause discoloration to their hair.

So, it is important you educate your clients to always have their head above water whether that's on a trip to the beach or if they are having a day at the pool.

Also, don’t forget, exposure to hard water also includes when they are washing their hair in the shower. Therefore, ensure you advise them to use bottled water when washing their locks to avoid this risk.

2. Cover it Up & Tie It Back

The perfect excuse for your clients to treat themselves to a stylish sun-hat, a cool cap, or both… advise them to keep their hair protected from the sun. Whether they are swimming in the pool or in the sea, we advise that they tie their hair up to keep it out of the water and away from picking up any sun cream, perfumes, lotions etc.

It is also important to avoid the UV rays being exposed directly to the hair as this will accelerate color fading.. Que the new sun hat.

3. Be Cool

Temperature is a big factor in how long your client's hair color stays vibrant so to prevent early color fade it's important to keep their hair cool.

When you are soaking up the sun we understand it can be hard to avoid the heat (the new sun hat will help with this). But when they are washing their hair, explain the opportunity for them to really cool their hair down. Keep the recommended bottles cool and always opt for lukewarm levels rather than hot. We promise your client's hair color will thank you.

4. Steer Clear Of Extra Heat

Because your client's hair is being exposed to the sun rays continuously on holiday, adding extra heat to their hair such as from the hair dryer or straighteners can cause further damage and accelerate color fade.

Therefore, low maintenance hairstyles such as plaits are a great way to avoid heat tools and embrace that natural wave. Why not advise them to try out the Heatless Hair Curler to get some gorgeous beachy waves?

Again, if heat is a must, they should always opt for a low heat setting and use a heat protectant such as our Miracle Mist, also great for their natural hair.

5. Discoloration Solution
